2019 LOCAL DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES
Rob Partridge – East Bradford Township Supervisor
Rob Partridge is a proud, lifelong Democrat who grew up here after his parents, who also live in East Bradford Township, moved to Chester County in 1962. He has been an EB resident for nearly 20 years. Rob has both private and public sector work experience. He has spent more than 25 years in the prescription pharmaceutical industry, and also worked for six years as Director of Communications with the WCASD. He served for ten years on the Board of Directors of the Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce, including as Chairman of the Board in 2016. Rob has launched four major new FDA approved Branded Rx treatments, all conscientiously priced at or near generic price levels. He served on the West Chester Area Education Foundation Board, and holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration/Marketing and a B.A. degree in Political Science.
Kevin Houghton – West Bradford Township Supervisor
Kevin Houghton is an Open Space advocate and is committed to conserving our land in West Bradford. A member of the Sierra Club for the last 16 years, Kevin will put environmental issues at the top of his concerns. Senator Dinniman endorsed Kevin early in his campaign for his work on the environment. Kevin is employed as a Realtor and lives in West Bradford with his wife, son and daughter. He coached his son Evan’s team in the West Bradford Little League last Spring and plans to continue his involvement in the community for years to come. He would like to stream the Township Supervisors’ meetings to make them accessible to residents who are unable to attend. A vote for Kevin would help bring a minority party voice to a township which has been long dominated by one party.
Janine Galen – School Director DASD, Region 8
Janine Galen strongly believes public education is the backbone for families within our community. Public schools belong to the community, and the School Board is the place where the community has a voice in how the young people in our area are educated, what they know about the world, and what they learn to value as adults. She will work to ensure that our schools are kind, supportive places where students come to discover new ideas and are challenged to go beyond what they thought possible.
Janine has lived in West Bradford for 28 years, and raised four boys, three of whom graduated from DASD schools. She has an MBA from West Chester University and an undergraduate degree from Drexel University in Management Information Systems. She has worked in the financial services industry for 30 years, focusing on audit/risk in business and technology projects and has been a Board member and Executive Treasurer of her Unitarian Universalist congregation for 10 years.
Joyce Houghton – School Director DASD, Region 9
Joyce Houghton is a strong supporter of public education. She believes our schools are a place where students should feel safe, supported, valued, and challenged. She seeks to ensure that the needs of all students are addressed and that students are given the tools they need to succeed, both in the classroom and beyond. Joyce has two young children who will soon enter the District. Joyce has a degree in English and Criminal Justice with a minor in Political Science from the University of Delaware. She has a law degree from Stetson University College of Law and is a licensed Pennsylvania attorney. She has worked in the financial services industry for over fifteen years. Joyce has been very involved in the Parent Teacher organization at her children’s daycare. She has an interest in animal rescue and has volunteered with and fostered for animal rescues. Joyce grew up in Chester County and West Bradford six years ago where she lives with her husband, their two children, and their dog.
Laura Detre – School Director WCASD, Region 3
Laura Detre is an adjunct professor of history, a passionate volunteer, and a concerned mom. She has been teaching at the university level for more than 20 years. Her background as an educator means that she understands what challenges our young people will face after high school and how best to prepare them for success in the future. As a volunteer in school libraries, the School Safety Committee, the School Store and Mileage Club, she has seen how we could improve the educational experience of our children, both in terms of curriculum and issues of safety and security. Laura is a den leader with Cub Scout Pack 66 and cookie mom for Girl Scout Troop 4840. Both her master’s and doctoral degrees are from the University of Maine. Laura and her husband, Joseph, live in West Goshen township and are parents of two children, ages 13 and 9 both currently enrolled in the district.
Bret Binder – Court of Common Pleas
A resident of East Bradford Township, Bret defeated an 18-year incumbent in 2017 to become the Magisterial District Judge in District 15-1-01, the busiest magisterial district court in Chester County. He is also a local attorney and the founder and managing partner of Binder & Canno, LLC, as well as a former law clerk for the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. His practice focuses on small business, real estate, and commercial litigation. Bret earned his law degree at Villanova University School of Law and his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He co-authors a regularly updated book on evidence with his father (Binder on Pennsylvania Evidence, 10th Edition, Pennsylvania Bar Institute). He served on the West Chester Area School District Board in 2014-15 and has been on the board of numerous local non-profits, including the Chester County OIC, which focuses on adult literacy, as well a group dedicated to preserving open space in West Chester.
